Update And A Treasure For ME!

This will be just a quick update for today because I wanted to show you the table I purchased last Friday from an un-borrowed picture from Hepcat as I showed in the last post.  I had my son Sean pick it up at the estate sale and take it DIRECTLY to my space in Folsom.  Had it come home first for the usual "spit & polish" cleanup it would probably NEVER have left.  So here it is, the GRAND SERVER (which is already causing a stir!) at my space in Folsom.
Is it stunning or WHAT?!
One doesn't even have to leave the couch to get another "refreshing beverage"!
PARTEEEE time!

And here is the "ME" part.  Hepcat and the Adorable Mz. Kitty were by my place Saturday morning to pick up a stunning but needing a full "face lift", 1950's desk by Paul Laszlo for Brown-Saltman that he is going to restore & use in their new bedroom.  It's a project I'm going to be watching carefully and with great anticipation.  Anyway, they told me there was a yard sale around the corner from me - HOW did I miss that?!  So I cruise on over only to find a few old toys and a ton of plant pots, none of which I was a bit interested in.  Disappointed, I headed back down the driveway when the lady asked me what sort of things I'm looking for.  Nothing in particular I tell her but not toys or planters.  But she for some reason persisted so I told her my interest is mostly mid century furniture and accessories.  Wellll, says she, let me show you something in the garage.   I thought it odd that she was so persistent about what I was looking for, and still do, but I'm thinking it was a divine blessing and meant to be.  Here it is, MY new kitchen light fixture!
Is it FABULOUS or what?!

I tend not to keep the treasures I find because well, I just can't - I'm supposed to be downsizing, not upsizing!  But this is the exception.  It pulls down from a cord on the ceiling to any length you desire and It will go in the kitchen breakfast area over the table, front & center of a large window facing the front of the house - so everyone can see it and be jealous ;- )

So that's my "partial" story of the weekend.  I'm off to Folsom to work the day.  It's GORGEOUS weather in Sacto., CA today (SEVENTY-FOUR degrees!!!) and I suspect it will be a busy - (and hopefully lucrative!) day.

Later gaters!

  2. Oh my! What a find!! I have never seen anything like it! And the lamp is awesome, too. I remember the kind that pulled down from the ceiling, but not as cool as this one!

  3. Great find on that light..AND RETRACTABLE!! I love the styling of it. I am sure it will look great in your kitchen. And great find on the grand server..it has the tall taper legs which is really cool. I am sure it won't stay long in your booth. I will keep you updated on the desk resto. Thanks again for letting us purchase it. It will look great next to our Heywood Wakefield Rio bedroom set.

  4. Hello my friends! It's so nice to have company here!

Dee, I have found out that this particular table was featured at the World's Fair in 1963. I was there but I don't remember it. Of course, I was a 12 year old snotty brat & was probably pouting about having to be there with my mom & grama. Haha! But an interesting feature to tell customers.

Z-Mama, I remember the pull-down's too but much more plain than my new pretty one. All the "spokes" are removable so they will be getting a new paint job. This lamp kinda reminds me of the whole "space needle" thing in Washington state. I love it & can't wait to install it.

Hepcat, I SO cannot wait till you get started on the desk & chair. I know it's going to be a real "process" but it's going to be so gorgeous. I already think it's spectacular (as you know ;- ) even in it's current condition. You can tell someone used and loved it well. I'm so happy it's gone to you & Melody because it will have a whole new generation of love.

Another gorgeous day today in SacTown USA - in the seventies again :- ) but had another little tremblor in the Bay Area. It's getting way too close to San Fran for my liking, especially with my grandson living & going to school there! *Ugggh*. Grama's worry way too much.

  6. Thank you Heidi Ann, and a BIG thank you for liking the painting behind the table! I've had it in the store for close to TWO years & no one's purchased it and I do not know why! It's a fabulous piece done I think in oils on a piece of plywood and framed in with wood moulding by an unknown artist & dated 1969. I adore it & refuse to get rid of it so it gets tucked behind stuff until someone falls in love with it too. Thanks for stopping by & hope to get together with you & your sisters sometime soon.

  8. Hi Lovely, just to say that babycham was the very first drink for the lady in the 1950's it was always served in a babycham glass with a bambi on the front and served with a cocktail cherry. Its a sparkling perry drink and its delicious and sweet. It used to always come in tiny bottles but now you can always get it in a normal wine bottle size. If you look on my blog you will see a photo of both glass and bottle i drink it all the time ;-) Hope your well, have a lovely week sweetie, dee xx
