My Weekend Booty!

Funny how the definition of words changes through the years, so no, I'm not going to moon you today - that would be grounds for capital punishment - but show you instead some great recent treasures.  Some this weekend, some here & there during the week.  First is the estate sale I went to on Saturday which had this
And this...

Beg and plead as I might (and I did :- ), she would NOT let me have them!  But boy I would have come in with a wrench and unscrewed that toilet in a hot minute!  How bout that pink flocked wallpaper!

This was a fun estate sale.  There really wasn't much left after the family treasures had been distributed but it was definitely a little walk through time.  It was a house built in the early 50's and owned by a couple who'd lived in it from day one till recently.  A cozy little home where you could see they'd lived a good life, and also each era was evident from the pink 50's to the orange 60's with this

Now this she did let me purchase!  I love the style & color & it swivels & rocks, but it's in pretty rough shape.  The "bones" are great - solid & sturdy and the fabric is not torn or very worn but the seat cushion is REALLL crunchy and the back fabric is stretched.  So I'm in a dilemma about having it reupholstered and keeping it for ME (because I really love it) or just taking it to the store, selling it for a song and letting the new owners do the reup.  Hmmm.  Gonna have to think on this for a while.

Elsewhere I found this - I'm a freak for vintage barware - it's so reminescent of days when cocktail parties meant actually wearing GLAMOUROUS cocktail dresses!  I don't know if this is actually vintage but I was taken by the amathyst color and the frosted pattern (the pattern you can't really see in the picture).  When I got home & was washing it I noticed a pretty  etching of a bee on the lid & it puzzles me.  Is it the mark of the maker or just a "pretty".  If anyone knows, please let me know.  There is no mark on the bottom so maybe the bee is the maker mark???

Also picked up this way cool phone from the 70's.

And these very cute, teensy-tiny salt & pepper shakers - I LOVE em - they're poodles!

And this Mitterteich Bavaria tea/coffee set

And since it's Monday morning & we're thinking COFFEE!  How bout this I got from Frank a couple of weeks ago!  Is this THE "star" of all percolators or what?!

Not only does it have the razzle-dazzle starburst design, the darn thing lights up from the bottom of the pot while it's brewing!  What DIDN'T they think of in the 60's!  Oh it was a grand time!

So that's it for now.  A very colorful weekend "booty" I'd say!

Now for that yummie cup of coffee - and believe me, these old percolators made one mighty fine brew!

Cheerio!  Have a great week & can't wait to see what y'all came up with!

  1. I am new to your blog and I love it! I came over from The Gold Country Girls blog because your comments were cracking me up. I am so happy I did.

P.S. There is something very familiar about that Bee. I will let you know if I figure it out.

    1. Well hi Jennifer! Thank you for coming by & hope you will often. It's so nice to make new friends. And aren't those Gold Country Girls the greatest. So lucky to have each other & share so much. That darn bee just has me vexed! It looks familiar to me too but I just can't place it!

      Hope to see you often!

    1. I suppose the oven will, as mostly happens to these beautiful appliances, go to the dumps when a new owner "updates" the home and takes it to another era. So sad. It's not only the asthetic beauty that is a wonder of them - it's also a testament to our old American workers that they have survived and still function 50 years later! *sigh*

As always, thank you my dear Dee for always making my "doorstep" a more lovely place to be.

  3. FAB! I can't believe they let you take pics, though. I wanted to share a pink stove and a pink dryer once and was told no photos. Why? Not sure so I took 'em anyway with my phone. The heart wants what the heart wants and my heart wanted those pink appliances! Love the phone, too.

    1. I SO love your attitude Dear Helen :- )

I've just started taking pics of my "wanderings" but so far haven't been denied. It's not like it's a craft show & we're stealing "artistic license" for pete's sake! There was actually a little black & white framed photo of the "lady of the house" in one of the bedrooms. She was SO glamourous & beautiful - a young Japanese woman wearing a stunning 50's cocktail dress striking quite a glamourous pose. Her neice was very gracious & actually pleased when I asked if I could photograph it. UNfortunately it didn't come out good so I couldn't show it here (I'm still getting used to this new camera with just a little screen to look at & make pictures with - not good for someone who's blind as a bat!).

  4. The pink lavvy is so fab - I've died naked on the floor! The only thing to beat it must be the avocado suite. Why is everyone so down on them? Will post a pic of MY phone on my web site, as soon as I can get Man Friday to photograph it - I just can't get the ruddy thing to work. Lord, they must use MICE to put those cameras together! 1. Mz. Dance - you seem to have a "thing" about "dying" with a bare arse on floors! hahaha! Gotta say thumbs down on the avocado - simply the worst of the retro colors & we had it all over the place & loved it at the time. And...I'll trade you my yellow phone for your GORGEOUS brown one ANNNY day! Very way chic!

  6. Hey Vic-I recommend trying to sell the chair as-is. Coming from someone who gets stuff re-done all the time, it is expensive to do and you'll have a hard time even breaking even on the piece. We have taken a loss every single time. Let the new owners make the decision. That way they can even pick their own fabric and you can make a profit.

    1. Oh I have NO intention of having it reupholstered unless it's for ME Hepcat! I like it a lot & think it might look nice in my living room. But if I decide not to keep it, it will definitely be an "as is" item at Folsom at a very bargain price. I really didn't realize it was so crispy but probably would have taken it anyway cause I just like it :- )

  7. Love all your finds, especially the percolator. I had a glass one that made coffee on the stove and I loved it. I would love to have it again. Your chair is great too. We have friends who bought a 50s house in Hayward years ago and the over in the kitchen was just like that one, different color though, maybe blue? The cabinetry looks just like their kitchen. I don't comment much but love your posts. Tina

    1. I so appreciate that you visit my blog Tina Dawn. And thank you for enjoying my posts. I'm a bit "off kilter" now & then with my dry & (sometimes ;- ) off-color humor, but I mean well & try not to offend too much. We are who we are I guess :- )

A stove top percolator eh?! I so remember mom's old metal one (then the Pyrex one) when she'd go flying toward the kitchen swearing when her's would boil all over the stove!

I ALWAYS love your posts that include your adorable furbabies!

  9. Those are amazing finds, Vicky! But I think it takes a lot of time and effort before you can find some that would suit your taste, especially when it comes to appliances. Therefore, I suggest that you seek the help of a personal shopper. That way, you won’t have to worry about your busy schedule, because you can leave the task to the shoppers.
